Project Genie is a smart marketplace that connects homeowners with vetted home improvement professionals using a fair, transparent auction system. Homeowners get matched with one qualified provider, and service providers only pay when they win a real lead.
How is Project Genie different from Thumbtack or TaskRabbit?
Unlike platforms that send your project to many vendors at once, Project Genie:
- Matches homeowners with one best-fit provider.
- Prevents vendor spam and excessive calls.
- Uses an auction model so providers compete fairly and strategically.
- Charges providers only when they win a lead.
Will I receive calls from multiple contractors?
No. That’s one of our biggest differences.
You submit your project once, and Project Genie matches you with a single vetted service provider. No spam, no pressure.
How do I submit a project?
Simply:
- Select a service category and sub-category.
- Enter your project location (zip code).
- Describe your project and size.
- Upload photos (optional).
- Submit.
That’s it—we handle the rest.
How does the matching process work?
After you submit your project:
- Qualified service providers bid in a private auction.
- Once the auction ends, the best-fit provider is selected.
- You’re notified that a vetted provider has been matched and will contact you shortly.
Do I have to pay anything to submit a project?
No. Submitting a project is completely free for homeowners.
What if I don’t want to move forward with the matched provider?
No problem. You can let us know through the app or website, and we’ll give you the option to:
- Re-enter your project into the auction pool, or.
- Close the project with no obligation.
Can I review the service provider?
Yes. After the job is completed (or not completed), you’ll be able to leave a review and rating based on your experience.
Who can bid on projects?
Only registered and vetted service providers with a valid payment method on file can participate in auctions.
How does the auction system work?
- You browse eligible projects in your area.
- Each project has a countdown timer and current bid amount.
- You can bid manually or use automated bidding tools.
- When the auction ends, the highest bidder wins the lead.
What types of bidding are available?
We offer three options:
- Manual Bidding – Place bids yourself.
- Auto-Pilot Bidding – Set a max bid and let the system handle the rest.
- Co-Pilot Bidding – Auto-bid up to your max, then choose whether to continue manually.
When do I pay?
You only pay if you win the auction.
Once the auction closes:
- Your card on file is charged (bid amount + fees).
- After successful payment, you receive the customer’s contact details.
What happens if my payment fails?
If your payment fails:
- You’ll have 5 minutes to update your payment method.
- If not resolved, the project is awarded to the next highest bidder.
- Repeated failures may restrict your ability to bid in the future.
Can I dispute a winning bid charge?
No. By participating in an auction, you agree that winning bids are final and cannot be disputed with your credit card company.
What information do I get after winning?
Once payment is successful, you receive:
- Customer’s full name.
- Phone number.
- Email address.
- Full project details and uploaded images.
What happens if the homeowner doesn’t hire me?
If the homeowner decides not to move forward:
- You won’t be charged again.
- The project may be re-entered into the auction pool.
- The outcome is tracked for quality and fairness monitoring.
Can I track my projects after winning?
Yes. Vendors can track:
- Project status (scheduled, completed, no hire).
- Start and end dates.
- Final project cost.
- Reviews and ratings.
Do homeowners and vendors rate each other?
Yes. Reviews are two-way, helping build trust and accountability on both sides.
